For the disposal of compostable biowaste, the districts of Viersen and Wesel want to jointly implement an efficient and climate-protecting solution. To this end, their joint venture Niederrheinische Bioanlagen Gesellschaft mbH is building a state-of-the-art biowaste treatment plant with fermentation at the Asdonkshof waste disposal center. In the treatment plant, biowaste is converted into high-quality compost and biogas.
The biowaste treatment plant with fermentation implements a novel, model system for the cascade utilization of biowaste (simultaneous material and energy recovery), avoiding the external disposal of liquid fermentation residues. In addition to a significant reduction in greenhouse gases, the plant thus conserves resources and promotes sustainable, environmentally compatible recycling of biowaste.
The project is funded with grants from the German government through the call for funding for investment-based municipal climate protection model projects under the National Climate Protection Initiative (NKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
Dr. Jens Biemann of WR Legal is providing comprehensive advice to the funding project, designed and accompanied several EU tendering procedures and is providing legal support for the realization of the plant construction.
